TINY TOTS: ages 3-5
These 1/2hour classes are held once a week. The children take part in song and dance, and rhythm and movement to music, which are the essential ingredients. This program is a gread introduction to dancing and interaction with other children.
TAP AND JAZZ FOR CHILDREN AGES 6-12
Classes for this age group are held once a week for one hour. Each class consists of ½ hour of tap, and ½ hour of jazz. The dancers are grouped accordingly by age and ability. Through this progressive program, the children will learn the fundamentals of tap and jazz-which is a base for forms of other dance n the future. All classes work on basic patterns and steps and prepare for two routines for the final “Dance Spectacular” held yearly at the end of May.
FOR TEENS AND ADULTS
Classes range from beginner to the advanced levels in Tap. Jazz and Step Dancing. Along with learning the art of dance, the students learn to develop poise, confidence and have a lot of fun while doing it.
SPECIAL CLASS FOR THE :SWING CHICKS”.
This class is designed for the ladies who want to learn to dance for their own enjoyment. They participate in 10 week sessions, and take tap, jazz and/or stepdance. The course is based on the demand of the class. There is no pressure for this group. As a group, they have the choice of partaking in the year end production , or just wishing to get fit and have fun.
HIP HOP FOR ALL AGES
The latest and newest hottest dance moves. Classes range from beginner to advanced in all ages. You can see hip hop dancing on such shows as “So You Think You Can Dance”. This class is a must.
BALLET
This program is geared for the pre-schooler and youth. It offers quality technique classes for the ballerina. Dancers will improve posture, strength and co-ordination while learning the fundamentals if the art of ballet.
LYRICAL JAZZ
Lyrical dance is the mixture of ballet and jazz technique. Movements are done in a flowing and continuous pattern.
This class offers dancers the opportunity to learn a strong technique base and the correct placement of body angles, along with learning routines. Classes range from the beginner, intermediate to the advanced levels.
TAP
The name comes from a tapping sound made when the small metal plats on the dancer’s shoes touch a hard surface. This lively, rhythmic tapping makes the performer not just a dancer but also a percussive musician. This form of dance can be done just about any type of music.
STEP DANCING:
Is a combination of the traditional clog dancing, and jigs and reels of Ireland and Scotland. In the 1920’s the metal taps were included and attached to the shoes both on the heels and toes, in order to produce a more pronounced sound. The majority of step dancing is done to very lively fiddle music.
TECHNIQUE
Technique is the foundation for all dance movement. A strong technical foundation enables a dancer to focus on the stylistic and performance aspects of dance. Te4chnique is essential for leaps and turns, where correct posture is essential to properly execute such moves.
Center control is important in Jazz Technique. The body’s center is the focal point from which all movements emanates, thus making it possible to maintain balance while executing powerful movements.
In all forms of dance, it is imperative to stretch and warm up the muscles to help prevent injuries.
