PARE-Testing

WHAT IS PARE? As of January 1997 PARE has been an integral part of the periodic health assessment for RCMP and City Police force applicants and members.

PARE does not measure fitness. It is a vital tool in assessing your ability to do the physical aspects of police work safely and effectively. Many people can readily complete the PARE while others will need to train for the test.

Given three months and the appropriate training program most police officers will pass this test.

The test is broken up into three different sections, in which the first two are timed.

The first is a 6 lap obstacle course which includes running up and down stairs, jumping over obstacles, and making sharp left and right turns.

The second section is a "fight" station which requires you to push and pull a weighted cable resistance in six 180 degree arcs, and to simulate being pushed down on your front and back for four repetitions. The weighted cable is 70 lbs. for applicants and 80 lbs. for members.
The third component is a 15 meter bag carry (80 lbs. for applicants and 100 lbs for members).
